NGC-certified Cryptocurrency Rarities Impress in Heritage Sale

Posted on 27/06/2025

The Heritage Auctions sale included an unloaded NGC-certified Gold Cas that would have been worth $100 million today — if it had been funded.

Several standout cryptocurrency rarities from the Otoh Collection that are graded by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) finished with spectacular results in a recent Heritage Auctions sale. The Physical Cryptocurrency Featuring the Otoh Collection, Part IV Platinum Session Signature Auction concluded on June 6, 2025.

Among the NGC-certified highlights was a 2012 Gold Casascius 1,000 Bitcoin - Unfunded pedigreed to the Otoh Collection and graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo  (lot 30044), which realized $84,000. In 2012, 1,000 Bitcoins would have been worth a few thousand dollars, and had this particular coin been loaded with that value, it would have been worth more than $100 million today, dwarfing the prices for the most expensive coins ever sold at auction. Today, these "Gold Cas" coins are extremely rare, sparking intense interest in the enthusiastic collecting community focused on physical cryptocurrency.

The auction also included six additional NGC-certified cryptocurrency rarities that each realized more than $50,000. Among them was a 2017 Silver BTCC Mint 1 Bitcoin - S Series pedigreed to the Otoh Collection and graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo  (lot 30023), which realized $108,000. Only 100 of these coins are thought to exist, according to the auction house, and this one is currently tied for the highest grade in the NGC Census.

Other NGC-certified cryptocurrency rarities in the auction included:

  • a 2011 Casascius 1 Bitcoin - Series 1 with CASACIUS Error pedigreed to the Otoh Collection and graded NGC MS 66 (lot 30039), which realized $108,000
