Stunning NGC-certified British Crown Among Auction Highlights

An 1853 Septimo Crown stands out in Sovereign Rarities’ September sale.

A stunning British Crown leads a group of rare coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) that are being offered in Sovereign Rarities’ Auction 7 on September 21, 2022.

The Great Britain 1853 Septimo Crown graded NGC PF 63+ Ultra Cameo (lot 186) has an obverse image of Queen Victoria engraved by William Wyon. The reverse shows crowned cruciform shields and a Latin inscription that translates to: "May God guard these united, in the year of our Lord 1853." This is the only example of this coin to earn NGC’s Ultra Cameo designation; it has an estimate of £30,000 to £50,000 (about $34,000 to $58,000).

  • a Kingdom of Macedon, Alexander III Gold Distater graded NGC Ancients Ch XF, 5/5 Strike and 3/5 Surface (lot 148) with an estimate of £28,000 to £32,000 (about $32,300 to $36,900)
  • a Great Britain 1847 Gothic Crown graded NCG PF 62 (lot 185) with an estimate of £18,000 to £20,000 (about $20,700 to $23,000)
  • a Great Britain 1960 British Exhibition Crown graded NGC PF 66 Ultra Cameo, (lot 199) with an estimate of £10,000 to £12,000 (about $11,500 to $13,800)
  • a Great Britain 1951 Plain Edge Crown graded NGC PF 66+ and pedigreed to the British Raj Collection (lot 192) with an estimate of £10,000 to £12,000 (about $11,500 to $13,800)
  • a Great Britain 1951 V.I.P. Proof Crown graded NGC PF 66 Cameo and pedigreed to the British Raj Collection (lot 193) with an estimate of £10,000 to £12,000 (about $11,500 to $13,800)
