Four 130-year-old NGC-certified Coins Among Leaders of Hong Kong, China Auction

HKINF sale will include a group of 1889 coins with an estimate of $166,000 to 234,000.

Four rare, high-grade Chinese coins more than 100 years old and certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) will be among the highlights of a June 27-28 sale in Hong Kong, China.

This 1889 Silver Dragon Dollar graded NGC MS 64+ has an estimate of $80,000 to $120,000 (USD).

The coins, all from 1889 and minted in Kwangtung province, are from the Henderson Lincoln Collection and have a combined estimate of $166,000 to $234,000 (USD) in the HKINF World Coins & Ancient Coins Signature Auction that will be held by Heritage Auctions. The Kwangtung Mint, China’s first with modern machinery, was the world’s largest when it began producing coins in 1888, with the capacity to produce 400,000 silver dollars and more than 2.5 million copper coins a day.

The most important of the Henderson Lincoln coins is a Silver Dragon Dollar graded NGC MS 64+ with an estimate of $80,000 to $120,000 (USD).

The other coins in the group are a Silver 50 Cents graded NGC MS 65+ with an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000, a 20 Cents graded NGC MS 64+ with an estimate $18,000 to $22,000 and a 10 Cents graded NGC MS 62 with an estimate of $8,000 to $12,000 (USD).

Other particularly significant NGC-graded coins in this sale include a 1906 Gold China Kuping 1 Tael graded NGC MS 61 with an estimate of $60,000 to $80,000 (USD).

Two coins with estimates of $50,000 to $80,000 (USD) are a 1914 China Silver $1 graded NGC MS 61 and a 1908 China Silver $1 graded NGC AU 50.

Two modern coins are among the NGC-graded coins with high estimates, with a 1995 5-ounce China gold Dragon Boat 500 Yuan graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo holding the second-highest estimate of the sale, at $60,000 to $90,000 (USD), and a 1993 5-ounce Gold Two Peacocks 500 Yuan graded NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo with an estimate of $40,000 to 60,000 (USD).
